Best BoomCloud Alternatives for Dental Membership Plans in 2026

  • Platform and services
  • Membership plan basics
  • Independent practices

The main BoomCloud alternatives for dental membership plans are Clerri (formerly Kleer and Membersy), DentalHQ, Plan Forward, Smile Advantage, Bento, and illumitrac. They differ most in who handles plan design and state compliance, how deeply they work inside your practice management system, and how they price.

A note on names: Kleer and Membersy merged in 2024 and became Clerri in 2025, so older lists that show Kleer as a separate BoomCloud competitor are describing Clerri.

BoomCloud at a glance

BoomCloud, founded in 2014 by Jordon Comstock, sells membership software for dental practices and several other industries. Its strengths are easy to see: published pricing, an AI plan builder, a 30-day free trial, and a Patient Marketplace that lists practices for patients looking for a plan. The trade-off is that BoomCloud positions itself as software rather than a plan administrator, so the practice designs the plan, handles state-law questions with its own attorney, and runs the plan alongside its practice management system.

Why practices look for a BoomCloud alternative

  • They want plan design and state compliance handled for them, not left to the practice and its attorney
  • They want enrollment inside the practice management system, from the schedule
  • They want a team behind the software: a success manager, staff training, and patient marketing
  • They are rolling out a plan across several locations and need group reporting and a fast launch
  • They want to compare total cost at the member count they expect

1. Clerri (formerly Kleer and Membersy)

Clerri runs membership plans for 25,000+ dentists, from single-location practices to 7 of the 10 largest DSOs. Each practice gets free setup, a dedicated success manager, Clerri University training, patient marketing, and bilingual member support by phone, email, or chat. Clerri Bridge connects to 13 named practice management systems, including Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Denticon, and CareStack, so staff can enroll a patient in about 30 seconds without leaving the schedule.

The biggest difference from BoomCloud is who carries the plan. Clerri holds DMPO licenses in all 36 states that require them and is Knox-Keene compliant in California, so practices do not have to work out state rules on their own. Practices are month-to-month, and most are live in about two weeks.

Once patients join a Clerri plan, they average 76% more visits, 146% more treatment, and 172% more cash production than before they joined.

2. DentalHQ

DentalHQ was created by a dentist and says it serves 1,000+ practices. It connects with 60+ practice management systems, offers Guaranteed Plan Payments for monthly members during their first 12 months, and includes employer and community outreach tools. DentalHQ does not publish its pricing or its approach to state compliance, so ask for both in writing.

3. Plan Forward

Plan Forward was founded by Megan Lohman, a former dental financial coordinator, and emphasizes hands-on, operator-led onboarding with annual program reviews and pricing analysis. It offers read and write integration with 20+ practice management systems. Pricing comes from a custom quote after a demo.

4. Smile Advantage

Smile Advantage publishes flat monthly pricing: Advantage Core is $349 a month and Advantage Pro is $499 a month ($279 and $398 billed annually), with custom Enterprise pricing for groups. PMS integration and payment plans are reserved for the Pro tier, and practices should ask how plans are structured for their state's rules.

5. Bento

Bento runs a dental benefits platform for employers and also offers in-office membership plans for practices. Practices can create a free account, start from a template, and pay only per member sold, and patients can buy and track a plan in the Bento app. In-office plans sit alongside its main employer benefits business.

6. illumitrac

illumitrac is membership club software with a $149 one-time license, a per-member amount averaging $3 to $4 a month built into what patients pay, and a standalone dashboard that runs alongside your PMS. It suits practices that want a low upfront cost and are comfortable running the plan themselves.

How to choose a BoomCloud alternative

  • Start with your PMS: confirm the platform works with your exact system and whether it writes back or only reads
  • Decide who owns compliance: you and your attorney, or a platform that holds the licenses
  • Time an enrollment in a demo, from the schedule to a signed-up member
  • Price it at the member count you expect in year two, including every fee
  • Ask what happens after launch: success manager, staff training, and patient marketing
